NOTE: Our listings sometimes get rather lengthy. However, we continually hear from out of state / out of country buyers (the majority of our clients) that they prefer the level of detail that we provide. However, if you are not prepared to read multiple pages of description, we recommend that you review the "Specifications" on the car along with viewing the photos. Also, if you'd prefer, please call us at 925-846-1451 and we'll glaly discuss the Z3 and answer any questions over the telephone, including about our Buy it Now policies. Yes, the BMW Z3 can be purchased prior to the end of the eBay auction. Again, give us a call for details.

ALSO, PLEASE NOTE: EACH TIME WE LIST A VEHICLE ON EBAY WE RECEIVE COMMENTS THAT THERE ARE NO PHOTOS OF THE INTERIOR, ENGINE, UNDERCARRIAGE, ETC. OF THE CAR. THERE ARE 100 PHOTOS OF ALL AREAS OF THE CAR BUT, WHEN YOU REACH WHAT APPEARS TO BE THE LAST PHOTO, YOU WILL NEED TO SCROLL TO VIEW THE REMAINING PHOTOS. IF YOU ARE STILL UNABLE TO SEE THE PHOTOS, PLEASE CALL US AT 925-846-1451 AND WE WILL PROVIDE A LINK FOR THE PHOTOS (IT IS A VIOLATION OF EBAY POLICY TO LIST THE URL ON THE EBAY LISTING).

THE Z3 HISTORY

The BMW Z3 was the first modern mass-market roadster produced by BMW, as well as the first new BMW model assembled in the United States. The Z3 was introduced as a 1996 model year vehicle, shortly after being featured in the James Bond movie, Golden Eye. There were a few variants of the car before its production run ended in 2002, including a coupé version for 1999. It was manufactured and assembled in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

The Z3 was designed by Joji Nagashima of the BMW design team and developed from the E36 platform of the 3 Series. The resulting platform is sometimes referred to as the E36/7(roadster) or E36/8(coupé). The rear semi-trailing arm suspension from the E30 was used for the Z3. At first only the 1.9 L engine was offered, but its 138 hp was not up to buyers' expectations
BMW Z3

In the North American market, the inline-4 engine was complemented by a larger straight-6 engine in 1997: the 2.8 Liter. This engine, similar to the BMW M52 in the 328i except with an all aluminum block and head, was especially desirable with its 189 hp.

In 1999, the 1.9 L 4-cylinder engine was replaced with a 2.5 L straight-6, producing 170 hp. Due to marketing, BMW wanted to differentiate the 2.8 L engine from the 2.5 L engine, so it was badged 2.3 just like the 3-Series 323i, which also has a 2.5 L engine.

All of the engines were replaced when the car was face-lifted for 2000. For U.S cars, the Z3 was offered with the 2.5 liter engine and the potent and desirable 3.0 liter version. Both of these time-tested straight-6 engines lasted through the end of the car's run in 2002. Also updated were the car's interior appointments.

OVERALL CONDITION - BMW Z3 ROADSTER

When it comes to BMW's, we receive regular requests for sports cars that are finished in silver / black. The body of this striking example is painted in Arctic Silver Metallic and it has the preferred leather interior and cloth, power convertible top. We received this vehicle from one of our preferred customers who is fanatical about the "care and feeding" of his collector / enthusiast cars. Frankly, we fully appreciate that BMW owners / prospective buyers have high standards and this "no excuses" car is certain to hold up under the most stringent scrutiny.

Not only is the mileage exceptionally low on this car, having just over 23,000 miles, it is also 100% stock. There are no exhaust changes, chip, suspension modifications, etc. Also, the car was previously owned by a very particular woman (and subsequently a member of her family) that truly babied the Z3. The car has NEVER been abused, "tracked", modified, or damaged / painted.

This BMW Z3 is exceptionally clean in every respect, including the interior, exterior, trunk, and engine bay. The car has been very well cared for including having received a number of BMW warranty repairs along with recent tires, maintenance, and recommended ongoing service work. This is truly a beautiful example that has always received the highest level of care from the BMW dealer, and dedicated BMW repair specialists. The car was recently the subject of an independent inspection that revealed absolutely NO needs, or weak points. Finally, the car has the options that we look for on a Z3 and is being offered at a fraction of its original cost despite its very low mileage.
Details on the specific condition of the car are listed below.

BODY / INTERIOR / TRUNK

The body of the Z3 Roadster is, well, gorgeous. The BMW is totally free from damage including any noticeable/significant door dings, dents, and damage. The Car Fax report is totally clean and reflects no accident damage, theft, salvage title, or other "suspicious history." The car carries a Car Fax guarantee. This is a totally legitimate and beautiful BMW Z3 and, unlike many of the cars that have bounced around auctions (in fact, the Car Fax report supports that the BMW has always been privately owned, never sold at auction), been previously repaired or had significant "issues", this car has been privately owned and meticulously well cared for at all times.

A close, expert inspection of the car while on a lift reveals totally clean rocker panels; front and rear lower fender areas, and undercarriage. The car is remarkably clean on both the topside, and the bottom of the car! All of the body panels, including doors, hood and trunk, are very straight, line up well, and have no signs of damage or previous repair. The BMW carries the correct, number matching BMW VIN stickers on the major panels of the car as further evidence of the originality / authenticity of this high end example. Please refer to the undercarriage photographs listed on this posting.

As expected with an automobile of this caliber that has been in California for years, the Z3 is totally free from rust, pitting or major damage to the body. There are absolutely no signs of rust on the typical rust prone areas of the BMW body, undercarriage or any other parts of the car.

All of the exterior trim is in beautiful condition. The front and rear bumpers have, hardly a scratch can be found on this Z3. There is absolutely no "bumper rash", or damage since this car has always been a "Suburban" car, not one that has been exposed to brutal, repeated "Big City" parallel parking environs. All of the plastic trim and other exterior moldings are free from damage and in excellent condition. The side windows are free from cracks and damage, and operate perfectly. The front windshield is free from all but the smallest roads nicks / chips consistent with the age and low mileage of the car. The trim surrounding it is in excellent condition.

The BMW has what we believe to be the most attractive, upgraded factory 17" alloy wheels. The tires are matching, quality Yokohama's that are in excellent condition. The wheels have minor scrapes but are not bent or badly damaged in any way. The imperfections require a close inspection and cannot be seen from even a few feet away. We have shown the wheels close-up but any imperfections are difficult to see, even in the close-ups.

INTERIOR

The interior is in simple fantastic condition, consistent with the condition of the exterior, top and trunk/engine bay areas. The optional leather interior is simply lovely. The infinitely adjustable power seats reflect virtually no signs of wear and have the appearance of seats in a well cared for BMW that is only a few years old. The car had had careful (and fanatical!) owner for many years and, it shows. The side seat bolsters are free from tears, damage, and wear. As the photos show, the entire interior is in absolutely excellent condition, including the area behind the rear seats that includes the windscreen (free from any damage with working zippers). The carpet is excellent and covered in front with BMW factory "Z3" logo mat.a nice touch. The dash is also in perfect condition as are the door panels and center console. There are no cracks or signs of wear on the dash, center console or instruments, switches or steering wheel. The retracting seat belts are, of course, original, free of any fraying or damage. The doorsills and doorjambs are clean and free from dirt and grease.

The Z3 has an in dash CD player and the Bose sound system. The dash is beautifully trimmed in wood as is the shift lever and handbrake. The car has a very elegant appearance and, as one has come to expect from BMW, the lights, gauges, and entire electrical system is 100% functional.

The trunk also contains the original carpet that is in excellent condition. The trunk area is completely clean and contains the original tools under the carpeted mat. The trunk is totally free from any signs of leakage, or damage. All of the tools, spare, etc are mounted in the front trunk and have never been removed.

The convertible top is high quality canvas (not vinyl), power operated and in excellent condition. The top is totally free from any damage, rips or tears. The rear window zips out for additional air flow or to minimize wear on the rear window when the top is in the down position. The rear convertible window is clear and is also free from any rips, or damage (refer to close-up photos of the top and window).

ENGINE & MECHANICAL COMPNENTS

The BMW has received frequent and regular inspections, and repairs have been made to the vehicle as recommended. In fact, the Car Fax report documents many of the repairs that we performed at factory authorized BMW dealerships. BMW professionals have always serviced the car and the large majority of the work actually being completed at authorized BMW dealers. The BMW is extremely strong mechanically including major components such as engine and transmission, rear end, brakes and suspension. This is a Z3 that has been exceptionally well maintained, garaged, and pampered for its entire life. Please remember, that the car has only traveled just under 35,000 miles or an average of under 4,000 miles per year!!

When it comes to drivability, this particular BMW is absolutely superb, and it drives like a virtually new car. The Z3 is great fun to drive and exhibits absolutely no problems. The BMW starts immediately when cold and hot and runs cool, even in warm California temperatures. The BMW has always passed California's strict smog checks and will be delivered to any California buyer with a current certificate.

The engine is very strong, does not smoke, leak, or exhibit any problems whatsoever. The BMW idles smoothly at just below 1000 rpm, and does not hesitate, have any unusual noises or issues.

The increased horsepower in this particular 3.0 liter car is noticeable over earlier BMW cars that had 4 cylinder engines and even those with the smaller, 2.5 liter version. The additional power adds to the driving experience both in town, and on the highway. These later model BMW cars offer a great blend of comfort and performance, handling and luxury ("creature comforts").

The transmission is excellent and all of the syncromesh gears function perfectly. There is no noise in the driveline, and the clutch engages properly, and without slippage, chattering or fuss. The brakes work great and are in excellent condition (90& remaining front & rear) per the required California safety inspection. The Z3 stops straight and sure.
As expected, the BMW passed the last safety inspection (less than 1 week ago), with no findings/needs and is inspected on a regular basis to ensure that there are no mechanical issues/needs. The tires were found to have remaining tread of 90% (rear) and 75% (front). The emergency brake is functional and correctly adjusted.

The engine and engine bay are very clean, and free from excessive oil, dirt and grease. We have owned/driven a large number of BMW cars over the years, and can with confidence, that this is the best overall BMW sports car that we have had the pleasure of owning. This Z3 is an excellent running/driving car that will provide years of future enjoyment to its new owner.

Summary from the delivering dealer includes all of the minor warranty work that was performed during the cars early life. It shows the level of care that we look for to support that the car has received the proper care, oil services, major services, etc.

This particular BMW has clearly been regularly serviced and very well cared for, over the years. The clean Car Fax report that documents the mileage and ownership, along with supporting that the car has had no history of accident damage, theft, flood, odometer tampering, etc.

PURCHASING A COLLECTOR VEHICLE - THINGS TO CONSIDER

As always, we recommend that you carefully review the seller's background of any collector car being sold over the Internet as well as considering an independent inspection, or personal viewing of the vehicle. We also feel strongly that it is important to consider the following when purchasing from an
Internet seller / business:

* How long have they been in business?

* How long as a collector car facility?

* Are they willing to share a list of names (references) of
buyer's in your state, or country that have dealt with their
organization?

* How many positive collector car vehicle sales have completed (positive eBay feedback)?

* How detailed/complete is the description of the vehicle?

* Do the photos show details, or are they simply "Glamour Shots"

* Does the seller have a surety bond to protect the financial
transaction? What about insurance, licensing by the state, and a local business license?

* Does the seller (if a business) have any DMV (Motor Vehicle) complaints and/or other history of legal action, grievances?

* Can the seller assist with funding sources, transport and out of state/country sales?
