HISTORY

The Corvette's styling was substantially upgraded in 1961. Although enthusiasts at the time did not know it, they were being given a sneak peak of things to come. The rear would carry over to 1963, which would be a pivotal year in Corvette history. The "ducktail" design (below) of the 1961 (and '62) with its four tail lights would be known as "transitional" years. The exhaust now exited below the body and not via an opening in the bumper as in previous years. Also, the transmission tunnel was reduced in width to increase the interior space by 20+%. Finally, the 1961 Corvette was the last Corvette that was available with those '50s favorite, wide whitewall tires!

THIS PARTICULAR '61 VETTE - OWNERSHIP HISTORY / BACKGROUND

This 1961 Corvette "Fuelie" has quite a history. The current owner purchased the car locally on December 13, 2000 and, at that time the car was a completely original, unmodified and correct / numbers matching '61. It retains its originality but has come a long, long way since that time.

At the time the car was purchased, the sales document (included) indicated mileage of 72,508. As of this writing, the Corvette has just 79,419 miles. So, since the current owner's acquisition of the car just over 10 years ago, he has driven the car a total of only 6,911 miles. The large majority of the miles that have been accumulated represent use for travels to Corvette shows, parades, and other events along with the occasional weekend cruise on dry, sunny, California days.

Prior to purchasing the Corvette the owner received information that the car had been a "Barn Find" having been located in far Northern California. According to the previous owner, the car had been in California all of its life. An inspection of the car during its restoration would support the cars life in a dry climate based on the lack of rust on the suspension components, chassis, etc. It is also important to note that the restorer (who became intimately familiar with the car over the course of many years) saw no signs of frame damage, body damage or other issues (problems).

Under the direction of the current fastidious Corvette aficionado, the car has been restored to its former glory with considerable care to retain the original, numbers correct components. The car is well known (and feared by other Corvette owners who show their cars at Corvette gatherings!) and has an amazing show history.

Over the previous few years the Corvette has one several Best in Shows, over 25 First in Class Awards and a 2nd place trophy at the prestigious Palo Alto Concours. Each of the cars results are categorized by year and event and include the detailed judging results, plaques, memorabilia, etc. The car never received less than 99% ratings and most of the judging placed the car at 99.5% and above. Keep in mind; this is not a "Trailer Queen".anything but! The car is driven to every show and used for the occasional weekend drive. Obviously, the car has not seen rain since its restoration.

SHOW HISTORY / SUMMARY

2009

During the 2008 / 2009 Season the owner of the 1961 Corvette spent considerable time focused on his new "C6" and actually began showing the new Corvette. While the '61 continued to be used (and maintained in the same, show level condition), the car became a less frequent "face" on the show scene in California.

The owner has struggled with the decision to sell the car and has finally decided to make the car available to a new "caregiver." Plus, as we often times find, his wife has asked for indicated that it would be nice to have "her" garage space back after all of this time! It is important to note that the '61 Corvette remains show ready or for use as a very high end street example of a desirable, rare "Fuelie."

CONDITION SUMMARY

This Corvette underwent a complete, comprehensive restoration over the course of several years and the documentation includes virtually every receipt for restoration effort. Additionally, there are 6 thick binders of information, photographs, awards and other information to document the cars history.

The car represents a truly exceptional example of a "frame-on" restoration that was completed by a local expert that specializes in the restoration of mostly American cars of the 1950's / 1960's. With a background including experience at the GM factory, the restorer has completed a number of show winning restorations that have been very well received by various judging bodies. The car receives regular comments that it is completed to an extremely high standard. Frankly, we couldn't agree more.

In terms of condition, we rarely see a car that truly meets the criteria for a #1 car, but this Corvette is certainly a candidate for a #1 (Excellent) category as defined by The Old Car Price Guide. Specifically, their description reads:

: EXCELLENT: Restored to current maximum professional standards of quality in every area, or perfect original with original components operating and appearing as new. A 95-plus point show car that is not driven.

In a National show judging, a number 1 vehicle is likely to win top honors in its class. In a sense, it has ceased to be an automobile and has become an object of art. It is transported to shows in an enclosed trailer, and, when not being shown, is stored in a climate controlled facility. It is not driven. There are few number 1 vehicles.

The beauty of this example is the effort to maintain 100% originality of the car and not "over-restore" it as is the case with so many mid-60's Corvettes. Make no mistake; this is an exceptionally high level car that, in our opinion approaches a #1 utilizing the Old Cars Price Guide definitions of condition (Please see "Pricing Information" later in this narrative). It is a car that would attract considerable attention any car show and a Corvette that would be especially well received and appreciated at a Corvette gathering. It is refreshing to see a car that has remained virtually 100% stock in its appearance and still has the large majority of its original factory equipment and components. Additionally, everything on the Corvette is fully functional, including the lighting system, radio and headlights.

While this '61 Corvette was restored to a very high standard, it remains a drivable, usable collector vehicle. In fact, those that have driven the car agree that this particular car runs and drives as well as any Corvette Stringray that they have driven. The car was not intended to be a total "trailer queen" although it clearly has potential for being shown at any level based on its condition, and restoration quality.

This restoration is exceptionally well done in every regard, and the builders paid attention to the smallest details. This extra effort is often times what separates an amateur restoration from a professional one and adds significantly to the value and desirability of a specialty/collector car. A few examples include of what makes this car special include:

- Desirable 315 hp Fuel Injected car

- Numbers matching car

- Straight, damage free undercarriage & suspension

- Extremely high quality, professional paint & body work

- Beautifully detailed interior (please review photo details) Note: Awards for interior over the years

- 100% Original dash configuration

- Functional clock

- Functional original radio

At this time, the long time owner of the Corvette has decided to let someone else enjoy this fantastic car. He has thoroughly enjoyed the car and the friendships that he has made with fellow Corvette owner's during his years of restoring and showing the car. As he puts it, "It's just time to move on." Clearly, the new owner will derive the same kind of enjoyment and continue the tradition of this great '61 Corvette.

Please review the photos carefully as they really tell the story relative to the condition of this absolutely lovely 1961 Corvette.

Additional information by "category" is as follows:

EXTERIOR BODY & TRIM / INTERIOR

The body is finished in what we believe is one of the most attractive colors for a 1961 Corvette, Honduras Maroon. The car includes a completely restored and virtually unused factory matching hardtop. The car is finished with black interior as it was when it left the factory in 1961.

As the restoration photographs reflect, the Corvette was painted with the car totally disassembled, and all of the trim removed. The door jambs, engine bay, trunk area, dash; etc all received high quality, professional repainting. The paint is extremely high quality, with no signs of orange peel, fish eyes, cracking, peeling or other significant issues. We are unable to identify any significant flaws or imperfections that in any way detract from the amazing overall appearance of this restored, 1961 Chevrolet Corvette.

The Corvette has been driven approximately 7,000 miles since the restoration and has been fully "sorted" to ensure that there are no mechanical or other issues. The car has just undergone an independent inspection with no findings. It was given a totally clean "bill of health." Also, the car was professionally detailed after its construction/restoration, and is ready to be delivered to a proud new owner.

The body of the Corvette is the nicest that we have seen in years. As Corvette aficionados will be quick to point out, often times the bodies show considerable imperfections, seam / bonding lines and other noticeable flaws. Not so with this car.

An inspection of the car reveals the following observations by Chevrolet enthusiasts/experts:

Ø No indication of body or chassis rust

Ø Clean, dry, original underside

Ø Beautiful interior and dash in stock configuration (Including
Steering Wheel)

Ø Doors open and close perfectly with no sagging or fitment issues

The bumpers and other exterior trim have been completely refinished, or replaced resulting in a high luster, no scratches, or signs of damage. The trim on the car looks virtually new. The bumpers are free from dents and dings also having the appearance of being like new.

All of the body panels, including doors, hood and trunk, are very straight, line up well, and close solidly. An inspection of the rocker panels, rear lower fenders, under hood area, spare tire "well", and undercarriage reveals freshly restored panels including the inner panels, frame and underside components.

The remaining exterior trim is in excellent condition and reflects the cars high quality restoration. The other exterior moldings are in beautiful condition and the stainless trim is bright and free from dents/dings. The side windows are free from cracks and damage, and the windows operate perfectly. The front windshield is free from any cracks, stars or damage and the chrome surrounding it, is excellent, as well.

The interior was completely reupholstered when the car was restored. The Corvette has retained its original interior style / configuration.

Of course, the entire interior (front & rear seats, door panels, carpeting, headliner, trunk, trim, etc.etc) and other interior components are in fantastic condition. The workmanship is very high quality and the interior shows virtually no significant signs of wear. The prospective buyer should carefully review the detailed as words cannot describe how beautiful the interior is on this 1961 Corvette.

The dash is fitted with the stock (Functional) AM radio. As the photographs show, seat belts are in place.

All of the electrical system (headlights, lights, turn signals, etc) are fully functional.

This car is truly an exceptional example of a '61 Corvette, needless to say, draws crowds wherever she goes!

ENGINE & MECHANICAL COMPONENTS

The cars mechanical components are equally as good as the exterior, interior condition. The Corvette was inspected within the past week and found to be strong in every regard. This includes; the engine, transmission, and other major mechanical components including brakes, steering, suspension and electrical system. All of the components have been highly detailed and the photographs reflect the fresh nature of all of the engine, undercarriage and interior / exterior parts.

The Corvette retains its original, numbers correct 283 c.i. / 315 hp Corvette engine. It has the correct manifolds, exhaust set-up and distributor shielding. The engine bay is extremely sanitary and highly detailed including the underside of the hood and the surrounding engine bay (all painted with the engine removed from the car and the Corvette totally disassembled). Perhaps, the old adage "A picture is worth a thousand words" is most appropriate as the best way to describe the Corvette.

Again, we must stress that all of the restoration work that was completed on the Corvette was done by, or at the request of the cars very particular owner. He wanted to ensure that the car met his high standards and that even the smallest details were addressed during the restoration process.

Driving the Corvette is a "No Surprise" experience (the best kind!). The car pulls strong in every gear and has a great sound. There is no noise in the driveline, no transmission slippage, or rear end noise. The steering is precise for the era of the car and the brakes are very good. The car stops straight and sure. The attention to detail shows and the car is tight, solid and performs very well.

VALUES......AUCTIONS...... MISCELLANEOUS

The prices of nice Chevrolet Corvette's (especially desirable 1961 Fuel Injected cars) continues to climb, driven in part by the escalating values of American Muscle, and high end European vehicles. While some seem to be concerned with the state of the economy, desirable "blue chip" collector cars like the Corvette Stingrays continue to be strong in the market. If history repeats itself, cars in this league will set new records at some of the well-known auctions throughout the course of 2010 and beyond setting an even higher watermark for the future sales of these cars.
While we enjoy attending some of these auctions, frankly, we see some reasons to consider purchasing a collector car in a less frantic, less emotional setting. While we can't offer the cocktails and gourmet food found at some auctions, we are able to offer what we believe are much more important benefits. Unlike the live auctions where a car is simply driven past the crowd, we are able to provide the prospective buyer with important history on a particular car. We are also able to outline, in great detail, the specifics of recent repairs/updates, the accuracy of the "numbers" on the car, and a host of other significant facts that cannot be provided during the frenzy of a live auction.

While is difficult to place a value on a unique build of this caliber, we have seen similar examples sell at auction for prices well in excess of $125,000. Even at those prices, the new owners are benefiting from a significant value considering the cost of restoring/building these classic Corvettes. Many enthusiasts realize that the values of these cars continue to increase in value, but they are surprised at how much they appreciated during the past several years.

Since we do not incur the costs associated with organizing a huge auction in Arizona (not to mention incurring the cost of those cocktails and appetizers!) we are pleased to offer this Corvette at a considerably lower price than we expect it would command at a large, live auction.

Specifically, the current edition (April, 2010) edition of the Old Cars Price Guide places the value of this Corvette (adjusted for the 315 hp "Fuelie" and other options) at between $125,400 (#1 Condition) and $88,600. As we indicated, considering this cars show history, restoration quality and California lineage, the car should be considered#1. However, our pricing requirements are considerably less than this car would bring at auction and lower that the #1 condition pricing shown above.

A DRIVE IN THE CORVETTE

This Corvette is a regular on the show circuit and has competed in a wide range and level of shows. On rare occasions, the Corvette has received a 2nd place but nothing lower. The cars restorer takes the car in periodically to complete a comprehensive detail and inspection of the car to keep it in show level condition. So, the car remains very drivable, reliable and usable.
While the car has been driven only 7,000 miles since its completion that has been more than sufficient time to "sort" the car and ensure that it remains in excellent usable / drivable condition. The car has been driven in the San Francisco Bay area, and it runs flawlessly under all weather and traffic conditions. The Corvette runs cool, does not exhibit any problems, and the engine is smooth with indications at idle of a mild camshaft upgrade. The strong V8 with dual exhaust emits a great, throaty sound. The transmission shifts perfectly. The Chevrolet does not smoke, leak oil, or water. It starts immediately, when either hot or cold.

We must admit that even during our trip to take photos of this amazing car we realized that driving this Corvette requires a certain amount of patience. Why? Well, everywhere you go, plan on spending time answering questions about the car, its history, and "What's it got in it"? We forget that considering the age of the car, some of the "younger folks" have never seen and certainly not experience driving a vintage Corvette. We hear regular remarks from the more "mature enthusiasts" (like us!) like; "I had one when I was in college.best car I ever had"! or "I met my wife when I had mine." Or.WOW, is it a real "Fuelie"???? In any event, the car is a real attention getter! Great Fun, to be sure!!

MISCELLANEOUS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

1. Has it received a safety / light inspection? Yes, in accordance with California requirements, the car has been safety inspected by an independent professional organization.

2. What were the results of the independent inspection? The car was found to be very solid and had no issues with safety related items (brakes, electrical, steering, suspension, tires, etc.).

3. What is the total mileage on the Chevrolet? When the car was sold to its current owner in December, 2000, the mileage on the Corvette read 72,508. Currently, the car has 79,419 miles. Of course, due to the age of the car, we are unable to document if these are actual, correct miles. However, during the previous several years, we can attest to the fact that the car has been brought back to a condition that many believe (including the judges at shows!) to be better than new.

4. Was the work completed to a high standard? Yes, all of the work, both mechanical and cosmetic was done to a high standard, by local professionals with significant experience / familiarity with this era of Corvette.

5. What are the cars needs (if any) at this time? The vehicle is in beautiful condition and, as we have indicated, runs and drives exceptionally well. From a mechanical and cosmetic perspective the car is totally "turn-key" and ready to use. The owner reports only one "missing" item. The windshield washer "bag" is not in place and, as a result, the windshield washers do not function. (Refer to # 6)
6. Can we have the vehicle inspected? Yes, absolutely. In fact, for a car of this value we encourage inspections by qualified, serious prospective buyers. All we ask is that you call us at 925-846-1451 to arrange a convenient time since we are in and out of our office quite a bit. We are unable to allow inspections 24 hours prior to the end of the auction as we are closed on Sunday.

7. Does the car have seat belts? Yes, the stock style seat belts are fitted and fasten to the console. They are black in color.

8. Can you provide some "ballpark" costs of shipping to say New York? We would only recommend fully enclosed transport for this car. On a fully insured, enclosed carrier and delivered to your door, about $1500.00 for most of the East Coast. The cost to Los Angeles would be in the area of $500.00. PLEASE check with us as these are just estimates, not firm shipping costs, and rates are changing regularly due to fuel costs and other factors.

9. What is the reserve? We will be glad to discuss the Corvette with serious, qualified buyers (please call us at 925-846-1451), but will not respond to emails asking "What is the reserve." We can say that the reserve is very reasonable, especially considering the overall quality / build of this particular car.

PURCHASING A COLLECTOR VEHICLE - THINGS TO CONSIDER

As always, we recommend that you carefully review the seller's background of any collector car being sold over the Internet. We believe that it is important to ask yourself a number of questions including, but not limited to:

- How long have they been in business?

- How much experience do they have with collector cars?

- How many positive collector car vehicle sales have completed (positive EBay feedback)?

- How detailed/complete is the description of the vehicle?

- Do the photos show details of the interior, exterior, top, chrome, etc. or are they simply "Glamour Shots" taken from a distance?

- Does the seller have a surety bond to protect the financial transaction?

- What about insurance, licensing by the state, and a local business license?

- Does the seller (if a business) have any DMV (Motor Vehicle) complaints and/or other history of legal action, grievances?

- Do they enjoy a favorable local and national/international reputation?

- Can the seller assist with funding sources, transport and out of state/country sales?

* Please review our feedback on EBay (user name never22many) for our history of successful sales to out of state/country buyers. Our feedback consists of a total of over 550 positive transactions on EBay.

* As with any collectible vehicle of this vintage we are unable to provide a warranty or guarantee of condition. However, we make every effort to accurately represent our vehicles, and highlight both positive items as well as areas that require attention. We ask that prospective buyers consider our EBay history/feedback, standing in the community, length of time in business, and other factors when purchasing a collectible vehicle from Classic Cars Ltd.

While the information relative to the cars history, "numbers" and other specifics is believed to be correct, we can assume no responsibility for the accuracy of the information as much of the information has been provided by third party sources, inspectors, etc. We highly encourage a personal or professional inspection of this vehicle prior to purchase to confirm the data reported in this narrative.

For California buyers, the Chevrolet is registered until April, 2010 and has a clear, California title.

In addition to the purchase price, California buyers will be subject to sales tax, documentation fee, and DMV transfer fees. Out of state buyers will be responsible for the purchase price of the vehicle with any taxes/fess paid in their respective state

Thank you,

Classic Cars Ltd.
