1971 Lotus Europa Series 2

1971 Europa Series 2

Original California car with 66,454 two owner miles. The car is classic British Racing Green with black interior and gray Panasport wheels. Mechanically very strong with recently rebuilt engine (comptression between 168lbs - 172lbs in all 4 cylinders), Weber sidedraft carburetor, free flow header setup and a high quality after market 13" leather steering wheel. These changes improve the Europa without negatively affecting the cars originality.

This S2 Lotus Europa runs and drives extremely well and is as strong as the Twin Cam Lotus Elans and Europa that we had owned. The carburetion improvement and more free flow exhaust contribute to the performance as does the excellent condition of the engine. The engine does not smoke or leak excessive oil. The 4 speed transmission shifts very well and clutch and brakes are excellent. We can find no significant mechanical weak points. This is a very solid example of an S2 that has been owned by mature adults, well maintained and not abused.

The Lotus does not show any signs of current or previous major damage to the body. While the cosmetic condition of the car is good inside and out, upon close inspection, there are the usual minor stress cracks found on virtually all Europas. The cracks are minor and do not detract from the appearance of the car. The BRG paint is high gloss but shows a few small paint bubbles, noticable on the roof, that become more apparent with a very critical inspection of the car.

The interior is very good original. The seats are free from rips, tears and significant signs of wear. The dash has the common horizonttal "crazing" in the clear coat and has a few very small pieces chipped off of the dash. It is, however, very presentable as is the console, door panels, dash pad, and headliner. The usual signs of wear for a car of this vintage can be found on the carpeting, floor mats and some other interior surfaces. All of the gauges are functional with the exception of the gas gauge which is pinned on "E". All lighting systems, turnsignals and brake lights function properly, as well. The power windows work and, in fact, move up and down very quickly, unlike some older Europas.

This particular Europa is a nice original example and is offered at a very reasonable price.
